Carrick fatal crash victim named

A 53-year-old woman, who died following a road crash in Carrickfergus on Wednesday night, has been named.

Police said Heather Steele, from the Carrickfergus area, was killed in the collision involving two cars - a green Suzuki Ignis and a black Seat Leon - on the Belfast Road close to Rodgers Quay in the Co Antrim town shortly before 8pm.Two other men injured in the incident were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which were described as not life threatening.The road between Troopers Lane and the Marine Highway Roundabout was closed to allow investigators to survey the crash scene.Police have reopened the road and appealed for anyone with information to contact investigating officers.Chief Inspector Natalie Wilson said: "I would appeal to anyone who saw either car in the area or who witnessed the RTC to contact the Colliaion Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station or local police at Carrickfergus Police Station on the non emergency number 101."So far 52 people have died on Northern Ireland roads this year.That compares to 56 people throughout the whole of 2013.Traffic moving again on Belfast Rd in Carrickfergus. pic.twitter.com/ZDp8gaOqxD— Paul Reilly (@Paul_UTV) August 28, 2014
