A lorry without a trailer, rammed the building, damaging the wall enclosing the machine at a petrol station on the Mussenden Road in the Co Londonderry village at around 4.30am on Friday.Despite the best efforts of the would-be thieves, they left the scene empty-handed.It's thought the vehicle used in the incident was stolen from the Newmills Road in Coleraine in the early hours of Friday. It was recovered in the Garvagh Road area for forensic examination a short time after the attempted raid.Jason Maguire, the shop's owner, said the property has been extensively damaged."A lot of people very much depend on us, it's a free cash machine," he said."We are really going to be struggling now without this, it's going to be a major expense, we want to just get the shop back on the road and keep all our customers happy."Police are investigating and have appealed for information.Detective Chief Inspector Catherine Magee said: "Detectives in Coleraine can be contacted on the 101 non-emergency number."If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111."
