The crash happened on Knocks Road at around 8.10pm on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said the child was in "a serious, but stable" condition.

Two of the car's passengers were treated for shock.

The Knocks Road was closed on Thursday morning, but has since reopened.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision between the young cyclist and a red Vauxhall Astra to contact them.
