Body found in Lough Ree search

Divers searching for a missing Portadown man in Lough Ree in Co Westmeath have found a body.

Crews searching for Daryl Burke, who was fishing with two other men when their boat capsized on the lough last month, made the discovery on Saturday at around 2.30pm.The body, which has not yet been formally identified, was found near the shoreline of one of the islands on Lough Ree.A massive search was launched over two weeks ago for the missing angler.Mr Burke, 30, was one of three fishermen who took to the waters on Thursday 20 March. The other two men were critically ill when they were rescued from the waters.David Warnock, 27 and from Richhill, died in hospital while the third man, John Trimble, 60, is recovering. It is understood they intended to camp in the Carnagh Bay area for the weekend and fish on the lake. The trio had set off for Carnagh from Hodson Bay and were part of a group from a Co Armagh angling club, who had travelled to the area, but had got into difficulty in the poor conditions.Earlier this week, divers discovered the anglers' boat, a 15ft Dell Quay Dory flat-bottomed vessel, in the Yew Point area just off the lough's west shore. On Saturday, Sean McCarry, of Community Search and Rescue, said that the Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service had "dived an area about 500m from where the boat was, and in doing an extensive search there they located a body."He said the discovery had brought both relief and sadness to all involved.
