Australian tourist missing in Ireland

A tourist from Australia has gone missing after travelling to Ireland.

Gardaí said 85-year-old William Tyquin arrived on 4 July and hired a car with the intention of travelling around the island.

He was last seen at Athlone in Co Westmeath on 8 July.

Police and Mr Tyquin's family are increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and are now seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts.

A statement said: "William is an Australian tourist who travelled to Ireland on Friday 4 July.

"He hired a black Hyundai ix20 12- D- 22135 with the intention of travelling around Ireland. He was last seen on the 8th July 2014 in Athlone. William is described as being 5' 6", with grey hair. When last seen he was wearing cream coloured trousers, a grey t-shirt and sandals."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Gardaí.
