A man and woman have been arrested after a car failed to stop for police in Newtownabbey on Thursday night.

A gold Citroen Saxo failed to stop for PSNI officers at Prince Charles Way shortly before 10pm.

The car then travelled towards Manse Way, causing damage to a barrier in the vicinity.

A police spokesperson said: "The male and female left the car at the Glade Way area and were detained by police."

It has not yet been established where the car was taken from.

The 19-year-old woman was detained on suspicion of aggravated 'taking and driving away' and criminal damage.

The 20- year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, driving whilst unfit, aggravated 'taking and driving away' and failing to stop for police.

The woman has been subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries while the man remains in custody.
