The decision has been made by the High Court in Dublin.

The court heard on Thursday that the 22-year-old, who weighs five stone, does not accept she will die if she refuses further nutrition.

It was also revealed that the woman has suffered from the eating disorder for 10 years and has been admitted to hospital three times - at one point she weighed just three stone.

The court heard the woman has refused four out of seven oral nutritional supplements in the last 24 hours.

The Health and Safety Executive's application to the court was supported by the woman's parents.

The president of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns said it was a life or death situation and he was making an order to feed the woman as advised by her medical team.

The case will be back before the court next Tuesday.

we're told that anorexia is a disease, thus it has to be treated, psychologically & by these means.

As a sufferer myself + having been in a similar situation. This girl is not capable of making a rational decision about her own life due to her being so ill. Medical professions take an oath and they are obligated to obey this. By this, they are to preserve and save a life where needs be. I think in this day and age there should be a specialist inpatient unit for people suffering with eating disorders in Northern Ireland. Instead you are put in a psychiatric hospital with a few trained nurses (on the subject of eating disorders). Who at the same time are caring for other patients with psychiatric disorders. People like this girl and myself need 24/7 professional care help and support. I am suffering, this girl is suffering and so are many others. There stigma also needs to be addressed about anorexia. Its not all about food weight and numbers. Thats all others see. Infact, it is a mental illness that shows alot of physical symptoms. It also has the biggest mortality rate out of all mental illnesses. I do hope she is alright and I wish her well. X
