'Air rifle' found amid search

A suspected .22 type air rifle has been found by police following a planned search in north Belfast.

Detectives made the discovery in the Bann Court area on Friday.

One line of police enquiry is that the find is related to criminal activity.

The item has been taken away for forensic examination.

Enquiries are continuing.

@Michael Kelly in Derry City, yes I agree with you. Because if it was a .22 CO2 reservoir rifle like an Air Arms production model, with anything up to 30 ft lbs muzzle energy, it has the potential to kill. I trust your comment wasn't tongue in cheek?

Air rifles come two caliber's. they come in .22 and .177. Both of these caliber's relate to the size of the lead pellet fired by compressed air. But you're quite right, .22 is also the size of bullet fired through a conventional handgun or rifle of that caliber.
