Belfast Zoo is continuing to celebrate the recent arrival of baby emperor tamarin twins, with the pair - named Ping and Pong - now out and about in their enclosure with the rest of the family.

The tiny duo were actually born on 28 December, but will only recently have been spotted by visitors as they explore their surroundings with mum Bella and dad Alfie.

Native to South America, the emperor tamarins are easily recognisable thanks to their striking white moustaches.

"Belfast Zoo is home to eight different species of marmoset and tamarin. Our golden lion tamarins and pied tamarins are so important that they are on loan from the Brazilian government," zoo manager Mark Challis said.

"It is fantastic that we are playing an active role in the conservation of these species and this has been demonstrated by the arrival of our twin emperor tamarins.

"This is definitely the first of many celebrations for the zoo in 2014, as throughout the year we will be celebrating our 80th anniversary!"
