The one-time EastEnders actress lost her career to drugs and has long battled with her addictions.
On Thursday, she told Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that - while she was having a difficult time - she was relieved her relapse had been revealed in the press.
"When the story was going to be broken, the first thing I said to the journalist was: 'Thank you very much, because you've done me a huge favour.' I think it's exactly the intervention I needed," 40-year-old Daniella said.
"I've had a terrible time this last year - which is no excuse to relapse, I know. But, at the same time, I just felt so broken this last year. I feel like a lot of the time I've been on the verge of a breakdown."
I was weak and I took drugs. And I'm ashamed of that.
She struggled to regain her composure after speaking about her family's reaction, telling This Morning that she had not heard from her mum since telling her three weeks ago about her relapse.
"My younger brother just emailed me this morning," she added tearfully.
"And I do know I've broken his heart."
Daniella, who saw her 12-year marriage to Kevin Jenkins breakdown last year and recently suffered a miscarriage before ending her engagement to 24-year-old cagefighter Tom Richards, said she felt she needed to be back in LA to try to recover.
"I first ever got clean 12 years ago in the States on a programme for three months," she said.
While she is trying to stay positive, she added: "I think I've just resigned myself to the fact that I'm always going to need that help in my life - I can't do it on my own."
