Teen duo Bars & Melody got Simon Cowell's seal of approval following their audition as the notoriously tough judge hit the golden buzzer for the pair.

Charlie, 15, and Leondre, 13, immediately won over the audience and panel as they explained they would be performing their own version of Hopeful by Twista and Faith Evans with original lyrics about their past experiences of bullying.

Their performance brought the crowd to their feet and reduced Alesha Dixon to tears before all four judges gave the young performers a standing ovation.

The crowd began chanting "hit the gold" prompting Simon to listen to their demand and therefore sent the boys through to the live semi-finals.

"It seems like we hardly need to critique you it went so well," David Walliams told them.

Alesha added: "The minute you started that verse it brought a tear to my eye. It was really, really moving."

"You know what, I listened to every word...I think that record could be a hit. I really, really like you two," said Simon.

Meanwhile Simon met his namesake at the Belfast auditions, telling the singing hopeful Simon Cowell: "I've always wanted to meet me..."

Singing Simon performed When You Tell Me That You Love Me by Diana Ross, with David commenting he "never said no to Simon Cowell" and gave him a big thumbs up.

You definitely have more talent than this Simon Cowell.

"Everyone says yes to Simon Cowell so yes Simon Cowell," said Alesha.

Unfortunately judge Simon was not as impressed with his namesake and shared his disappointment at what he was about to say.

He explained: "You've no idea how much I wanted this to be great, so I could say at the end of the show "the winner of Britain's Got Talent is Simon Cowell". I mean I live for that moment.

"I never thought I'd say this but Simon Cowell it's a no."

Luckily the remaining judges disagreed and singing Simon goes through to the next stage of the competition.

French trio Arnaud, Mehdi and Yanis had a more positive response following their audition as they performed a dance routine to a medley of Spice Girls songs while wearing high heels.

With the crowd loving their audition, Simon told them: "On paper this sounds fairly hideous, three guys from France in high heels dancing to the Spice Girls and yet, it kind of works."

Amanda Holden added: "You've got everything going on, you're gorgeous looking, you work those heels. You utterly sold it to us."

Apart from me, I loved all the impressions.

Also winning high praise during this week's auditions was 43-year-old impressionist Jon Clegg who dared to impersonate Simon - high waisted trousers included.

The audience and the judges loved his routine, which also had a take on Louis Walsh, Alan Carr and Homer and Marge Simpson.

"You're a very funny man," said David. "You ticked all the boxes, the impressions were fantastic and your experience really shows through."

"You should get extra points for doing Simon because that makes you a very brave man," Alesha told him.

The judges also had to endure some very odd auditions, including Rafi Raja's self-taught Bollywood dance routine.

Rafi didn't endear himself to the audience after he explained he was in love with a girl, but couldn't be with her...because his career was more important.

All four judges hit their buzzers during his audition, but Rafi continued with his performance because he "didn't get to do his best bit".

An exasperated Simon told him: "This isn't going to make a difference, you're just doing the same thing over and over!"
