TV presenter Richard Hammond has filmed his most explosive stunt to date by setting himself on fire.

Richard Hammond sets himself on fire

He was almost entirely engulfed in flames as he shot the daring scene in Los Angeles for his BBC America show Richard Hammond's Crash Course.

With his face and hair smeared in fire-resistant petroleum jelly, Hammond appeared at ease as he was set alight and walked under a bridge for the shoot.

Taking to his Twitter page, he explained to fans: "It's for a US show called Crash Course. I get to do cool stuff and make an idiot of myself."

Hammond, who almost died in 2006 in a high-speed jet-car crash while shooting Top Gear, has also been thrown through a window for the TV series, and was photographed leaping backwards off a bridge onto an inflatable safety cushion.
