Around 226,000 viewers tuned in to watch the agriculture programme, which follows a host of local families as they work through one of the toughest years the agri-food business has ever seen.

This compared to BBC NI's audience share of 33%, with London-based soap EastEnders.

Michael Wilson, Managing Director, UTV Television said: "For a local programme to score higher than a network soap is a brilliant achievement and once again our viewers have really taken to Rare Breed with its mix of new and familiar farming faces.

"We are delighted this series is proving so popular with our audience and there are 10 more shows still to go."

Meanwhile Hayley Cropper's dramatic departure from Coronation Street on Monday evening scored an average 52% audience share.

More than 350,000 viewers tuned in to say goodbye to the well loved character, in emotional scenes broadcast over two episodes on UTV.

Michael Wilson added: "Hayley's emotional exit in Coronation Street proves once again that Corrie is Northern Ireland's much loved soap."

This is a great show! But come on each episode is far far too short! 20 minutes per month, this should be more like 60 minutes.

Could you tell me if Rare Breed is repeated any day after the orininal programme. Thank you.
