Dancing On Ice lost its biggest celebrity on the first night of the competition, after Hollywood star Pamela Anderson was axed in a surprise skate-off which involved a stumble and a wardrobe malfunction.

The former Baywatch star and Playboy model was sent crashing out on Sunday night after she lost to funnyman Keith Chegwin following problems with her dress.

When she came off the ice, presenter Phillip Schofield quipped: "If it had happened a little earlier this evening you'd have been guaranteed a place in the final."

Pamela and partner Matt Evers were sitting third in the table following the judge's vote, but slipped into the bottom two once the public votes were added.

The judges unanimously voted to axe the 45-year-old actress, who stumbled when she danced to Sinead O'Connor's cover of Elton John's Sacrifice, preferring Keith's routine set to Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.

A stunned-looking Pamela said she was sad to have been knocked out early.

Writing on Twitter afterwards, she added: "Thanks for everything. Sorry I was voted off... My dress fell apart in save-me skate."

I feel so bad... I just stumbled, my dress... My boobs fell out, it happens.

Coronation Street star Samia Ghadie kicked off the new series saying she felt added pressure and worry because of speculation over her relationship with dance partner Sylvain Longchambon.

She said: "Obviously with all the unwanted press attention it has been difficult this week but out there tonight I put the fallout to one side and didn't let it affect my skating.

"So regardless of that, that was the best that I can do anyway."

She was given support by judge Jason Gardiner. He gave the pair a score of 3.5 - the lowest of all the judges but said they had great potential.

He added: "I know you are having a problem with the chemistry - don't shy away from that, ignore what everybody is saying but show us that there a strong partnership here and develop it."

They were joined by Matt Lapinskas who played Anthony Moon in EastEnders, Olympic medal-winning gymnast Beth Tweddle and former X Factor winner Shayne Ward.

Keith Chegwin was back in the rink a year after he crashed out of the show when he fell and broke his shoulder and ribs.

Six other contestants - Lauren Goodger from The Only Way Is Essex, Olympic boxing gold medallist Luke Campbell, television presenter Anthea Turner, comedian Joe Pasquale, ex Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas and former MP Oona King - will take their first turn on the ice next week.
