Noel Gallagher takes aim at hurling

Noel Gallagher has risked infuriating his fans in Ireland after branding hurling "just wrong".

The former Oasis star was in Dublin for a gig with his new band High Flying Birds at Croke Park this week, but insisted he was unimpressed with the traditional stick-based game.

He tells The Sun newspaper: "Hurling is just gang war with sticks.

"Gaelic football is a great game and quite exciting - but hurling? F*** that. Any sport where you have to wear a helmet is just wrong."

no offense taken! any reporting on this magnificent game or anything associated with the gaelic league is most welcome! Bet his fans across the world are googling and wiki'in hurling and learning about the caman, sliothar or even cu chullain!

As a Hurling fan myself, i just have to say that Noel is entitled to his opinion, at least hes honest, if he doesnt like the sport, then he doesnt like the sport. But Hurling is a very fast game and demands great skill in playing, its getting more and more popular around the world, especially in USA, Canada and Australia.

anyone who has ever had any interest in Noel Gallagher/Oasis will know he says most things tongue in cheek and gives good copy. I haven't heard his comments but i could pretty much guarantee they are a joke

Hurling the fastest game in the world. I do disagree with Noel, i don't play but it is exciting to watch. Fantastic stadium in Dublin 4th biggest in Europe.
