On Sunday viewers watched as Nicole made the heartbreaking decision of who to keep in the competition.
One hopeful she found the most difficult to tell no was Dubliner Melanie McCabe, who was attempting to make it to the live shows for the fourth time, only to again be sent home.
"At my Judges' Houses I wanted all six to go through," Nicole told Phillip and Holly.
"It's so hard because, especially being an artist as well, you empathise with them so you always see something great in them and you want to take all of them with you.
"I had to separate myself from the show and actually psyche myself up; I was like "how am I going to do this? How am I going to keep it together? How can I make sure they don't walk away and crumble?"
"It was brutal."
Despite many tears and hard decisions, Nicole chose her final three Girls and she said she was sure she had a winner on her hands.
"We've got Abi (Alton) who has got such a distinct, unique voice, she's our little flower. Then we have got Tamera (Foster) who is our beautiful, very talented, urban pop star - she's got her own swag going on.
"And then we have got Hannah (Barrett) and I fell in love with her as soon as she walked into the audition room. She just melts everybody's heart and soul when she sings.
"They all worked really hard for it, they fought to be here, definitely."
This weekend the Girls will perform a 80s classic during the first live show of the competition.
The X Factor airs on UTV this Saturday and Sunday from 8pm.
