Nathan Carter set for global success

Country music star Nathan Carter has been speaking to The Magazine's Sarah Travers about his rise to fame in recent years, and told of his excitement as his music is set to be released internationally.

The 23-year-old has come a long way since charging family members to watch him perform in the living room of their home, and his continuing success has been boosted by a new record deal."The last few weeks have been great," he told Sarah."I'm pleased to say I signed a record deal in the UK and it's a worldwide deal, which means they are going to be releasing my singles and albums in Europe and in the States. I can't wait."Nathan is best known for his cover of the Bob Dylan song Wagon Wheel, with the video for the track gaining over one million views on YouTube."I love singing it," he said. "There's nothing better than hearing 1,000 people or more singing it back to you at a gig, it's incredible."The video was just a real put together thing, I rang a few friends and asked them would they mind coming along to a beach in Donegal."It was meant to be a sunny day but it was absolutely freezing and the only thing that kept them warm was me feeding them bottles of (beer)."And while the country music scene may be predominately enjoyed by an older audience, Nathan credits his grandparents for introducing him to a genre of music that not many people his age would be listening to.He explained: "I was brought up listening to that sort of stuff."I used to go and stay at my nan and granddad's house every day after school and my nan loved people like Joe Dolan, Dickie Rock, Brendan Shine, all those sort of people and my granddad was in to all the country singers."I was probably the odd one out at school listening to it, but I love it and it's great to see now, it sort of gives me a bit of a kick, to see all the young ones getting into it."
