Coronation Street viewers said goodbye to Tina McIntyre on Monday after she died from a horrific head injury at the hands of Rob Donovan, and actress Michelle Keegan has also had to say goodbye to the girl she has played for six and a half years.

Tina's exit from the soap comes amid an explosive storyline involving infidelity, deceit, murder and suspicion, which Michelle has absolutely relished in.

She said: "The build up to Tina's exit and the ending has been absolutely amazing - I always wanted to go out with a bang.

"Going out in a black cab would have been great, so I would always have the chance to come back, but this massive storyline that is surrounding Tina at the minute and how she exits and who did it, it's been really, really exciting. I'm really pleased with it."

But despite her fantastic departure from Corrie, Michelle still found it difficult to leave the soap, admitting there was a lot she was going to miss.

"I don't think it's gonna hit me for a long time," she explained.

"I loved playing Tina from day one, as soon as I got the brief before the audition, I read it and I thought: "Yeah, that's me."

"I'm gonna miss everything, but the thing that stands out for me has to be the people and I don't just mean the cast, I mean the make-up, costume, production teams, the directors, the crew.

"I know it is quite a cliché thing to say, but everyone says Corrie is a close knit family...and it is, it's very, very family orientated here.

"I'm just gonna miss coming in everyday, having a brew and my make-up done, I'm just gonna miss everyone really."

And during her time on Coronation Street, the actress has formed close bonds with a number of her fellow cast members.

"Working with the Platts, Gail, David and Audrey, was amazing and I always say, even now six years down the line, if I've got a scene with any of them I just feel like they are a comfort blanket.

"And obviously I got a really special relationship with Barbara Knox who plays Rita, she's sort of been my surrogate mum and grandma in the show.

"She looked after Tina and looked after me at the same time."
