A lioness' attempts to get her teeth into a remarkably relaxed toddler, who was sitting only inches from her jaws, has proved an online sensation.

During a family day at the zoo, a mother filmed her son Jack, who she says was 'dressed like a baby zebra' in a black and white striped hoodie, as he sat against the glass window of the lion's enclosure.

A Lioness named Kya took a strong interest in the boy and fought hard to reach him through the glass, pawing, jumping and biting at the window, inches from where Jack was sitting.

His mother told him to turn around to see the attacking Lioness up close and, instead of recoiling in fear, the unfazed toddler simply calls her 'kitty kitty'.

The clip was uploaded to Youtube where it gained over a million views in one day and continues to spread.
