The expectant Duchess appeared to suggest the sex of her unborn baby in an unguarded moment during her visit to Grimsby, England, on Tuesday..
As local Diana Burton handed her a teddy bear, the Duchess reportedly told her: "Thank you, I will take that for my d..." before stopping herself, prompting another well-wisher to ask her if she was about to say "daughter".
The mother-to-be, who is five months pregnant, is said to have replied: "No, we don't know! We're not telling!"
The Duchess did disclose to the crowd that her baby has been kicking "very much".
