Hollywood star Angelina Jolie said she was "flattered" to be asked to play the evil queen Maleficent in the new film adaptation of the classic children's story Sleeping Beauty.

"(She is) the most evil person in the world, you are either flattered or extremely offended (to be asked to play her)," Angelina told This Morning's Alison Hammond.

"I was flattered, I've loved her since I was a kid, she just really enjoyed being evil and she seemed like she was having such a great deal of fun."

But while the actress relished getting to play the much-hated character, she admitted she did have a slight bit of trouble getting used to her costume - namely the iconic horns.

"When I first put the horns and the heels on I banged right into the trailer and nearly knocked myself out," she revealed.

"We eventually got horns that were magnetic and detachable so I could just take them off. Then I looked like a little bear - it wasn't very scary at all."

And the actress is not the only member of the famous Jolie-Pitt family to feature in the new movie, as her daughter with actor Brad Pitt, Vivienne, also won a role.

Angelina said: "Crew members would bring their children to set and I would think: "Oh, I'm a Disney character, I'm gonna go say hello" and then they would (cry).

"So the only child that would love me beyond my being a beast was Vivienne.

"She did it too well. At first she didn't want to do it at all and we jumped around trying to make her do this little running thing she had to do, so Brad and I were trying to make her do it and it was an exhausting day for us.

"And then on the second day she came in and she was so sure of what she was going to do. She was going to do this, she would do it this many times, she would stand on her mark and then when she was done, she walked off."
