The multi-cultural spectacle will feature a 500 strong cast of local, national and international performers over four nights from 27-30 August the city's Ebrington Square.
Event producer James Kee promises a huge show for Derry~Londonderry, and expressed hopes of creating a Tattoo on an annual basis.
He told UTV: "We have the opportunity to go in 2014 and hopefully in 2015, 2016 and 2017 as well. That's what we're trying to do.
"We're trying to create a genuine tangible legacy from the UK City of Culture by the Tattoo.
He added: "We were theming the show this year on the transportation of the city.
"We have got the ships which were a huge part of this city at one time, and the train industry which is big as well. That will be the general theme where we create stories and tell people all about the local area."
Up to 15,000 people are expected to see this year's event, which will include 200 Walled City Tattoo dancers who have been recruited from the Highland, Irish and contemporary dance worlds from all across Northern Ireland.
They will be joined by North West supergroup Sontas who will provide the musical back drop to the show.
Meanwhile the age old tradition of the Massed Pipes and Drums will comprise a spectacle of over 100 pipers and drummers from all over Northern Ireland, Scotland, England and Germany.
A Family Festival Fun Day will also run as part of this year's Walled City Tattoo, taking place on Friday 29th August.
The free event will be open to the public and will give the audience the chance to meet performers, try on costumes, play instruments and watch some very special performances.
Eddie Rowan, Events Manager for Northern Ireland Tourist Board said: "This (Tattoo) will provide visitors and locals alike with the opportunity to enjoy an event showcasing a mix of performances, with international appeal.
"This event has the potential to become an established event in Derry~Londonderry's annual calendar of events. We wish the organisers every success for the year ahead."
