Man in the Moon launched at The Waterfront Hall on Tuesday and tells the story of one man's journey to overcome the worst that life has thrown at him.

It also aims to address the growing problem of suicide in our society.

The play is being brought to the stage by the Brassneck Theatre Company, where Sheridan is a patron. He described the new production as a "credit to Belfast".

He told UTV: "It's dealing with black humour and pathos and heart. It's kind of going into the subject and surfing on a huge wave, and if the wave breaks you're going to fall.

"But it manages to stay on top without falling down. It manages to stay alive, but deals with the most death defying subject matter.

Writer, Pearse Elliot, said of the play's subject: "I had seen a photograph in my old school yearbook and there was at least ten people that had taken their lives and I wanted to address that and address it through art, because I think that's the way forward in the sense that it's such a powerful medium.

"That was a main inspiration for me, not to shy away from such a serious subject."
