Game of Thrones closes north coast beach

Production on series five of Game of Thrones has closed Portstewart Strand to the public for a second day.

North coast fans of the hit fantasy drama were amazed to find their local beach turned into the land of Westeros as filming continues in Northern Ireland. The National Trust, which manages the beach, has not confirmed the production was in fact for Game of Thrones, but a spokesperson said: "We are pleased to welcome another filming production to Portstewart Strand and expect there to be many benefits for the town and the wider north coast."As well as showcasing this amazing beach to people on a world stage, filming brings a number of economic benefits to the local town with many crew members spending time and money in the local economy."To facilitate this opportunity, there will be some short term inconvenience to visitors who wish to access the beach between August 4 and 11, however the site will be fully reopened by 12 August."On August 6 and 7 there will be no public access. We hope our visitors understand the reasons for this temporary closure and we are sure they will appreciate the longer term benefits to the area."Game of Thrones has been partly filmed in Northern Ireland throughout its five series.A majority of the HBO production is carried out at the Paint Hall studios in Belfast's Titanic Quarter. The critically acclaimed programme is currently leading the nominations for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, with 19 nods in total. This includes a number of technical awards for the show's Northern Ireland-based production crew.Excitement on Portstewart Strand filming for game of thrones!— Heather Watson (@he4therw4t5on) August 6, 2014
