On Saturday viewers saw a third of the 211 remaining contestants sent home without singing a note. Seventy acts then survived a sing off to earn a chance to perform in front of a 5,000 strong audience in Liverpool. In the end only 24 acts will go through to Judges Houses.
"We've got 72 hours up here for Bootcamp, it's not long, anyone at this point we don't feel are going to cut it, we should send them home," Gary Barlow said.
"We've made a good call today and it gives the other two thirds of people who are a left a good chance of learning something going forward in this competition," he added.
Belfast teen Jade Colins and Dubliner Melanie McCabe both survived the early stages of bootcamp, and viewers will learn on Sunday if they are among the six contestants shortlisted in the girls' category.
Jahmene and Lucy, on the other hand, failed to impress Gary, Tulisa Contostavlos, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh when they were put into groups of three to compete in the sing off.
The shy supermarket worker was dubbed a revelation by Louis after his audition. But the 21-year-old singer struggled to learn 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5.
You were the best singer we have seen in the whole of the audition tour by far ... Based on that today I would be sending you home right now, no question about it at all.
Gary Barlow
"Jahmene, it just didn't work, what happened? It's nothing like your first audition; can you tell me what went wrong?" Louis asked.
"I just really wasn't confident with the song at all," the contestant explained.
After deliberating the judges decided to give him "another chance". But Jahmene was left feeling like "I've let them down".
"I should have stood up for myself, because then I would have sung something that the judges would have been impressed with," he said. "For them to give me the chance again is just too much... I don't cry... it's just nice to be appreciated I guess."
Lucy, who shot into the iTunes Top 10 download chart overnight after performing self-penned song Last Night, also struggled when she took to the stage.
I just had a horrible performance ... I just walked off feeling like that was horrendous.
Lucy Spraggan
"I accept that I messed that one up", she told the judges.
"I sing and play guitar, I don't just sing, I've never been on stage without my guitar, I don't even sing karaoke because I'm so bad at singing without my guitar," she explained.
The judges let her go through, but Nicole warned her: "It was a little awkward at times."
Bootcamp nearly descended into chaos when bosses threw a party for the hopefuls when they arrived in Liverpool. One act, Collagen Westwood, turned up drunk on stage.
"I'm not going to lie; I've had like one or two whiskeys which I have smuggled in," she said.
Meanwhile Tammy Cartwright decided to leave the competition for personal reasons. And Robbie Hance, who said his current status was homeless when he auditioned in London, walked off the stage in the middle of his song.
"I forgot my lyrics and there's no point waiting around for someone to tell you you're not going to go through... I suppose self-destruction was the key of today," he said.
