After being in retirement for a decade, the If Tomorrow Never Comes singer is putting on two special performances in Ireland this July ahead of a world tour.

"In '97, we were lucky enough to play Croke Park, the stadium was under construction," the singer said on announcing the dates.

"130,000 plus of some of the greatest fans in the world. I was quoted then as saying 'When this stadium is finished, I would love to come back and try to fill it again...this time to the brink.'...and we're back to do just that."

And in Newcastle, Co Down, determined fans have been queuing days in advance of tickets going on sale on Thursday.

"It's brave and cold, but I've got my hot water bottle to keep me warm. It will be a good night, well worth the wait," one resilient fan told UTV.

Another in the queue said Brooks "puts on a good night" and he wouldn't miss the chance to see him after he surprised fans by coming out of retirement.

While one woman said she wouldn't be buying many tickets for the Dublin gig - only 14 in total.

Staff at Smyths are preparing for a stampede of fans.

"I've never seen anything like this before," one worker told UTV.

"They've been here since Monday and braving the weather as well with their tents and sleeping bags. It's going to be really busy tomorrow morning."

While the Brooks pandemic is alive and well in the seaside town it has also reached other parts of the region with people camping out in Cookstown, Londonderry and Belfast.

Those wishing to see the country star are taking no chances, as tickets are expected to sell out within minutes of going on sale.
