Emmerdale stars hail ongoing success

Emmerdale actress Emma Atkins has praised the continuing success of the soap ahead of the British Soap Awards this weekend.

Joined in the This Morning studio by fellow cast members Jason Merrells, Charley Webb, Laura Norton and Anthony Quinlin, Atkins - who plays Charity Macey - hailed the quality of recent storylines."For the past couple of years, since the (40th anniversary) live show, it has just been a non-stop, ongoing event," she told Phillip and Holly.Merrells, who plays Declan Macey, added: "I think we have been really good having great stories that have over-lapped with each other and really good set pieces, like the (Home Farm) fire at Christmas."One of the biggest moments from the Dales in the past year includes the dramatic siege at the hands of Cameron Murray, which has been nominated for spectacular scene of the year at the Soap Awards."I loved the storyline and I was so privileged to be a part of it," said actress Charley Webb, who has been nominated for best dramatic performance."It was huge - I think we were all shocked at how big it actually became, even though we knew how brilliant it was."Kate Oates, our producer, the way she tells stories is so amazing because she knows how to pitch them, she knows how long to do them for and I think that was a big part of the siege."You could put something on like that and if you didn't know the story, it wouldn't be quite as effective, but because it went on for so long you latched on to what was going on with the characters - and that's what I think made it so brilliant."Providing a bit of comedic relief from all the drama is Kerry Wyatt, played by best comedy performance nominee Laura Norton."It's so lovely to be nominated for anything, but especially that one, because I don't take myself very seriously and I like to find humour in the majority of my life," she said."To be nominated for an award where you're making other people laugh is lovely."Emmerdale will face off against Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, EastEnders and Doctors during this year's British Soap Awards which will air on UTV next week.Good fun with the @emmerdale guys @lawrencenotrin @MissCharleyWebb Jason and Emma. @itvthismorning thanks for having us x— Anthony Quinlan (@AnthonyQuinny) May 19, 2014
