Last week viewers watched as Rachel said goodbye to the Dales in a bid to save her fiancé Sam Dingle from going to prison for setting fire to Home Farm - a crime he didn't commit.
Rachel discovered that it was actually Declan Macey who started the blaze and Charity Dingle was helping him place the blame on Sam, all an act of revenge for Rachel sleeping with her husband Jai Sharma.
Charity told Rachel the only way to save Sam was to confess to starting the fire and then to flee the village with her son Archie.
"I loved filming those final scenes even though it was absolutely heartbreaking," said Oaten in behind-the-scenes footage.
"I've played Rachel Breckle for two-and-a-half years and it's been amazing from the day I got the job to the day I filmed my last scene.
"It's been a complete rollercoaster and I feel like me and Rachel have both been on the same journeys in many ways."Rachel has sort of evolved and found herself over the last two-and-a-half years and I think me, as a person, has done that too."
And the actress joked there was one item of clothing that she was definitely going to miss now she has left the soap.
"I'm actually really going to miss my trackie bottoms!" she admitted.
"They were so comfy and you could fit about five layers of thermals under them and I could wear them with my trainers.
"I'm going to see if the costume department will let me have a couple of pairs and I can sleep with them at night, next to my hoodie."
So as fans said goodbye to Rachel Breckle, Gemma Oaten has reflected on her time in the Dales and said she is so grateful to fans of the show for their love and support.
"I have had the most amazing time on Emmerdale and a lot of that has been because of the support of (the viewers).
"Rachel was very different to anybody in the show, with no make-up and not glamorous, but just a girl with a heart and a strong will.
"And I honestly can't thank you enough from the bottom of my heart."
