Editors at America's National Enquirer magazine allege the Hollywood couple is heading for divorce amid claims Douglas has walked out on the Welsh beauty, who is facing a "desperate battle" to save her 12-year marriage.
Sources told the tabloid the Wall Street icon moved out of the family home for several months last summer, but a spokesperson for Douglas has dismissed the claims made in the sensational cover story, telling the New York Post the rumours are "not true".
Douglas and Zeta-Jones showed no signs of marriage trouble last month when they walked the red carpet at the New York premiere of the actress' new film Side Effects hand in hand.
Both stars are expected to attend the Oscars on Sunday.
