Author Barbara Taylor Bradford sparked controversy last week when she expressed horror over women who openly disagree with their men, but will a This Morning debate end in agreement that "good wives should defer to their husbands"?

Speaking after nearly 50 years of being happily married, Barbara Taylor Bradford revealed that her secret was being the one to back down from arguments and simply respecting her husband.

Not surprisingly, out-spoken Apprentice star Katie Hopkins, 37, couldn't disagree more - and when she's disagreeing with her husband, she doesn't hold back from telling him exactly what she thinks.

"Will I say in public if we're having a little moment of disagreement about anything? Will I have a barney with him? Yes, I will," she declared.

Barbara Taylor Bradford said we should cow down, we should respect our husbands, we should not answer back, we should not argue - and I think that's a load of toot-toot.

But broadcaster and agony aunt Anne Atkins, 57, fully agrees with Barbara Taylor Bradford's stance and believes it's better to hold your tongue than to speak your mind.

"I think arguing in public can be really tacky," she said, having already outlined how women should essentially get their own way by allowing men to think it was all their idea in the first place.

But Katie was appalled by that approach, insisting: "It is fundamentally wrong to make a man believe that he's right in order for us to progress more happily!"

"What if he is nearly always right? Eamonn asked innocently. "And the other half just doesn't recognise it?"

Why should we have to tiptoe around? Why should I have to say: 'Ooh, I'll make Eamonn think this is his idea?' Why can't it be my idea?

Eamonn also managed to catch the usually irrepressible Katie off guard, with his take on her confrontational approach.

"There are passive-aggressives and I've worked this out - you're an aggressive-aggressive. The rowing is a form of foreplay to you - it's like two lions circling each other," he said.

"Eamonn! My mother's watching, darling!" Katie exclaimed.

But by the end of This Morning's debate on the issue, Eamonn did have to admit to his wife and co-presenter: "I wouldn't want false respect from you at all, I genuinely wouldn't.

"I would just like you to be nicer to me ..."
