The 22-year-old has portrayed Amy Wyatt since October 2010.
Speaking about her departure, the actress told Digital Spy: "I'd just like to say what an amazing experience I've had here at Emmerdale.
"I've made the best friends and I will carry the memories on through the rest of my career."
She added: "It's completely changed my life, as it's given me confidence and I'm coming out of it having learnt so much.
"I now feel ready to move on and play other characters, although playing Amy Wyatt has been more fun than I'd ever imagined."
During her time on the soap, Chelsea's character Amy has been a part of a number of dramatic storylines, including getting pregnant by Dales bad-boy Cain Dingle and giving her the baby up for adoption.
Most recently Amy discovered that her son Kyle's adoptive parents died in a car accident, prompting her to seek custody of the young boy.
It has not yet been announced when the actress will leave the show.
