Comedian Jimmy Carr was heckled on Friday at his first live show since news of his involvement in a tax-avoidance scheme emerged.

Carr heckled over taxes at live gig

The funnyman hit the headlines earlier this week after it was reported he exploited a legal loophole to pay just one per cent income tax in the UK, and he took to Twitter to apologise, writing: "I now realise I've made a terrible error of judgement."

Carr faced the public at his first stand-up set since the scandal broke, telling fans at Stockport Plaza in Manchester, England he wanted to perform a normal routine despite his "busy week".

He said: "The thing I wanted to say right at the top of the gig was I've been in the papers all week. It obviously produces gags, that's my job. But how about I just do a show for you? What do you think?"

However, the 1,200-strong crowd refused to let him live down his shame - in response to a heckler who called Carr a "tax dodger", he admitted: "I've got to take that, I'm afraid. I've been dishing it out for years."

Another cried out: "You're a tax cheat," and when Carr asked one man in the audience what he did for a living, he replied, "I'm a tax inspector."

The comic quipped: "Well you're doing a fairly s*** job of it, aren't you?"

Come on folks, Jimmy Carr makes a careeron a current afairs based quiz show. Imagine what he'd have to sy if this was ANY other public figure... He can't make a living the way he does and not expect to get AT LEAST the same level of abuse he dishes out. The difference is Jimmy's been dishing it out for years, so there's a lot of catching up to do. I like Jimmy Carr and of course I'd like to save more tax - but I don't make a living in the public eye by commenting on the behaviour of others in the public eye.

Its unbelievable that Jimmy Carr is getting the abuse hes getting. Hes done NOTHING wrong or illegal. Lets be honest with ourselves here, everyone would do anything legal to save money, especially when it comes to tax. If people want to find where the biggest tax dodgers/fraudsters are in Britain, just go to Westminister and the houses of parliment.

To be fair.. JC has done nothing wrong. The loophole is there for people like him to pay less tax than he/they should be. If anyone else was in the same position, and able to do the same, would you not be at it? I find David Camerons comment of it being morally wrong laughable. If he thinks it so... why doesn't he and his government change the law to prevent it. Simply answer is that Cameron and his mates are at it to. C'mon Dave, come clean and tell the people of the country how many MPs are at it as well. One thing I do dislike Carr for is his appearence on Deal or no Deal. He left the show with a small amount of money for his charity, then had the cheek to twitter messages asking for people for donations to bring the charity money up to a reasonable amount. With the money you have 'saved' by not paying your full tax payments Jimmy, I find your tactics of 'praying' on the good hearted people of this county a bloody disgrace.
