While the audio has been replaced by music, Frans Hofmeester's daughter Lotte can been seen growing from a babbling baby to a little girl chatting to her dad as he undertakes his project.
The proud dad, who has also made a similar video of his nine-year-old son, embarked on the labour of love to capture how quickly his children were changing and growing up.
He told the Huffington Post that he simply felt the need to "keep his memories intact", adding: "I've always had the feeling that this project was special, that it deserves a wider audience.
"But I never dreamt that it would get this kind of exposure."
Hundreds of thousands of people have logged on to Youtube to watch the video and comment on how cute the idea is, with many inspired to try making their own video memories.
