Bad news lies ahead for Roy and Hayley. (© ITV)
Roy's wife Hayley has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is supposed to be undergoing a major operation to remove a tumour.
But unfortunately for the couple, there is bad news on the horizon.
"The news is not good - it's as bad as it could be," David explains.
With the tumour proving inoperable, the couple are left to consider what that means for their future and Roy's heartache turns to anger at the injustice of it all.
It's the beginning of their last journey together ...

"Hayley's so good, and she's been through an awful lot. So has Roy, and together they try to do the right thing. So I suppose there is a sense of injustice," David says.
Roy begins to turn on those closest to him, venting his frustrations and even telling his good-living neighbour Emily that God doesn't exist.
"Life is just one sick practical joke and Hayley is its latest victim," he says in despair.
While David is keeping tight-lipped on how Roy will cope further down the line, he admits there is a heavy responsibility in playing out the moving storyline.
"You feel the responsibility to do it properly because it's happening all the time," he says.
