Sam Bailey, Luke Friend, Nicholas McDonald and Rough Copy each performed two songs during Saturday's show - one from the song book of Beyoncé and one from Elton John.

Luke was the first act to take to the stage with an acoustic rendition of Beyoncé's Best Thing I Never Had.

Sharon Osbourne admitted that she was "not crazy" about the song but she loved Luke's performance.

"You have turned into a great performer," she told him.

Gary Barlow added: "You have had such unbelievable progression during this competition. Your performances have outgrown this TV studio."

Nicholas, 17, was up next and the pressure of getting to the final hit the young singer has he fought back tears while performing Halo.

Unfortunately his emotions affected his voice during his performance with Nicole Scherzinger commenting it had "some weak moments".

Sharon said: "That was an emotional performance, but unfortunately the tears made your voice crack."

Unfortunately there were some weak moments during that performance.

"It wasn't like you," added Gary. "I think the song was too big for your voice."

Sam continued the Beyoncé themed section of the semi-final with a rendition of If I Were A Boy, which Louis Walsh described as "vocally off the scale."

"You have gone back to your Sam Bailey roots," added Nicole.

The final group in the competition Rough Copy ended the Beyoncé numbers with an energetic performance of Survivor.

But it was not to everyone's taste as Sharon said their jumping around on stage was causing a "brain overload" and she suggested they "pull the reigns in".

Nicole completely disagreed however, telling them: "You bring the excitement, you bring life to the stage and you bring energy to the show."

Gary added: "This is not the time to pull the reigns in. That performance was electric."

Nicholas had a second chance to gain a place in the final when the contestants took on Elton John classics.

He gave a strong performance of Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, with Gary telling him: "That song may have just saved it for you. You are a great little singer."

"You nailed it," his mentor Louis said.

Luke returned to perform Something About The Way You Look Tonight and received high praise from the Judges for his willingness to take risks and perform without his guitar.

You definitely stand out from the crowd.

Louis Walsh

"That is a very difficult song to sing," said Sharon. "You like to push out of your comfort zone and you were fantastic."

"You definitely stand out from the crowd," added Louis.

Rough Copy returned with a stripped back rendition of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word which pleased Sharon as she compared them to Boys II Men following their "elegant" performance.

"Pack your backpacks because you are definitely going to the final," said Nicole.

Sam closed the show with an "effortless" rendition of Candle In The Wind.

The four acts will return to the stage on Sunday to find out who will be awarded a place in the X factor final.

thank god this farce of a show is nearly over, it has dragged on for months to get as much cash as possible out of it, no wonder people are switching off in their thousands.
