This rural constituency on the western shore of Lough Neagh takes in the whole of Magherafelt and Cookstown district councils, and the Coalisland part of Dungannon district council.
In 2007, Sinn Féin held three out of six Assembly seats in Mid Ulster, with the SDLP, UUP and DUP holding the other three - the result of all three Assembly elections since 1998.
The most recent boundary commission left the constituency unchanged.
This is now firmly Martin McGuinness territory and Sinn Féin expects to maintain a strong vote. The SDLP has the high-profile Patsy McGlone but not much change is expected.
