Wellies - 'My new black'

Usually, my welly boots are reserved for trudging through the hills of Donegal but...

When I got the opportunity to present 'Ulster Unearthed' I was more than happy to hang up my handbag and heels and don a gilet and pair of hunters....

And so it was that I would embark on an adventure into our past and the incredible science of archaeology with some of the greatest experts in the field (no pun intended) at my side.

So what's the series all about?

It's a six part archaeology and heritage series set in various sites across Northern Ireland where the team reveal stories of Ulster's past and its links with Ulster Scots history.

But what the experts thought may have been lurking beneath the surface wasn't always the case. So there is a real sense of excitement throughout the series. On one occassion we went looking for evidence of 17th century houses but in fact found evidence of a prehistoric bronze age village!

The magic really happens when we use computer imaging to rebuild what the site would have looked like - so there's a real wow factor here too.

Monday night's program at Dunnalong in Strabane was the first dig we filmed back in July. As a self confessed archaeological novice I was understandably nervy about my first 'dig' but in a short time I took to it like a duck to water.

With glorious weather, beautiful surroundings and a wonderful expert in the form of Ronan McHugh....the first programme is sure to impress, particularly what we found at the site of the 400 year old gaelic fort!!

I had a blast filming it.

Hope you enjoy watching it.

Loved the first part of the show and as a fan of Time Team its good to see stuff like this from closer to home. One major failing though was the lack of a map at the start of the programme to show the site in relation to the wider area. I had never heard of Dunnalong and it would have been good to have some sort of pictorial reference
