It was 3 years ago in October 2010 when we took our first HD step as Her Majesty, The Queen turned on UTV's HD service with big fanfare for those with Virgin's cable service.
In October of last year Digital Switch-Over took place and capacity was made available to enable UTV to launch in HD on Freeview.
However, until today the biggest single issue in my viewer mailbag was the lack of UTV in HD on satellite services.
So I'm delighted to say that as of right now we have HD on all television platforms: switches were thrown, cables laid, transponders swung into action (not sure if that's technically true - I don't think transponders "swing"!) and on Freesat and Sky, UTV HD is now available. We're delighted to be out there...and in Sky HD homes UTV is on 103, the first HD channel you will find on the EPG.
While it may be a little later than planned, it represents a major investment for UTV and, like our viewers, I am looking forward to enjoying our quality dramas like Downton Abbey in HD and of course the footie and X Factor performances.
I'd like to thank our team of engineers and transmission crew, the ITV team and all our other technology partners for delivering the service.
And I'd like to thank you our viewers for watching UTV, we hope you continue to enjoy our great line-up of programmes now in HD for all.
- UTV HD is currently available on Channel 113 on the Virgin network and Channel 103 on the Freeview HD service. From Monday, UTV HD will be on channel 103 for Sky HD viewers and on channel 119 for FreeSat customers.
