At that point, he'd been given the all clear from the rare and aggressive cancer that he'd battled with much of his four-year-old life.
Due to the social media skills of his parents Leona and Stephen, and the "bright spark" personality of Oscar, most of Northern Ireland knows his face, his smile and his wee voice. He's as bright as a button and as friendly as any child. Maybe he's seen so much, that nothing fazes him. The times he's been in our newsroom and our studios, Wee Oscar has just taken over the place. In the filming before the Spirit Awards, he took over UTV's Studio 1, running around the cameras and the set, shouting and laughing as he went. He was as much at home on set as Paul and Ali!
Oscar has no shyness - he'd be chatting to everyone in the building, making friends and spreading a smile wherever he went. On the evening of his award, he ran up to Britain's Got Talent finalist Jordan O'Keefe like an old friend, threw his arms around him and was lifted up to the laughter and cheers of the whole audience.
Oscar and his family have become friends of UTV and of many of our staff reporters and camera team here. Our good wishes and prayers go out to the family.

The phrase "captured the heart" is often a cliché, but in the Knox family case, it isn't. Their battle and, we thought, victory against cancer had captured all our hearts and at the Spirit Awards, the warmth towards Oscar just flowed that night.
Then last night on The Oscar Knox Appeal website, Leona posted at 23.02 the news that Oscar's cancer has returned, and within seconds the good wishes and support poured out on social media show how much support the Knox family have in the new battle ahead. Celebrities, journalists, politicians, friends and strangers all added their views and their good luck messages. It's not only the Knox family, but also large parts of Northern Ireland that had followed Oscar's battle, that are devastated.
Oscar has battled this disease once and won. All at UTV wish him and his family well in the days and weeks ahead. He's a brave wee lad with a loving caring family ... and the whole spirit of the people of Northern Ireland and beyond behind him.
Oscar, Leona, Stephen and to little sister Isobella, we wish you well. Go #TeamOscar, your supporters are still with you.
