I wasn't planning to blog about the day-to-day progress of the building work at our new UTV Ireland HQ in Macken House ...

However, I posted a few sneak-peak pictures of our new studio on Twitter last night and the world went mad with retweets and good wishes.

Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration but, the response was overwhelming. It's great to see the comments and reaction to the great work being done, by so many teams, to bring UTV Ireland together.

If you don't happen to be on Twitter (follow me @MW_UTV), or if you missed them, here they are:

Building work is still in its infancy, but already offices are taking shape, and heating and air conditioning units, as well as lighting, have all been put in their respective homes.

When we took over the office, it was a concrete shell with no facilities. So, as you can imagine, everything needs to go in - from walls to soap dispensers.

Full credit to the team working on this project - MCA Architects, MAC Interiors, and TSL for when the tech-fit begins. They have been working closely behind the scenes and the level of their professionalism is outstanding.

Over the coming weeks, two studios, four edit suites, countless offices, change rooms, graphic suites, a sales floor and a newsroom will start to come together - not to mention bathrooms and changing and make-up rooms too.

We'll also have a space for technical operations and, I think somewhere among it all, is an office for me - along with finance, communications and other corporate functions.

We'll keep you updated with more photos as UTV Ireland HQ continues to develop.

PS: Thanks to Neal, our Comms Manager, for taking the photos.

Hi Michael. That will be later in the year. Plan is to be available across Ireland on all platforms. When we have deals in place, we will blog or tweet @ utvireland. All the best. MW

Hi when will UTV Ireland start testing on Saorview and on Sky? Have you secured an EPG slot on both platforms yet? Thanks guys.

Hi Antaine, UTV is for Northern Ireland. UTV Ireland is for the Republic of Ireland. We will have content of interest to the relavant audience on each channel. UTV has been available across the island of Ireland for more than 50 years. We are now tailoring the service in the RoI for the RoI audience. We think it makes sense. M

Will we be able to get UTV Ireland up north? If it's a southern-focussed tv station, why call it UTV Ireland, when it may not carry the content about Ulster which UTV does?

Michael Wilson is the Managing Director of UTV's Television Division.

Overseeing everything from the day to day running of UTV in Northern Ireland to the launch of UTV Ireland. His brief covers business development, online channels, regulatory affairs and the Contract and Licence commitments of the two channels.

Away from his job, he enjoys travel, current affairs, food - both eating out and cooking (he tells us he's pretty good in the kitchen) and his guilty pleasure is bad early Hollywood movies esp. horror and sci fi - think Bella Lugosi and Buster Crabbe!
