First things first - the singing. Because that is what it is all about.
I'm joking obviously.
So Gary Barlow chose the first live show to announce he was leaving after the current series, causing gasps of despair and disbelief from the both the studio audience and at home.
Considering we have quite a few more weeks to go, I'll not start with my loving tribute to the great man himself, but I will say I am going to miss his borderline mean humour and his ability to say any sentence at the speed of a glacier.
As a judge he definitely brings the truth to the competition and we all love someone who can tell it like it is. Gary don't leave!
So the singing.
As with every year of the X Factor, it is way too early to pick a front runner and with twelve acts to get through on Saturday, obviously not all of them were going to stand out (sorry Lorna).
But the general consensus seems to be that Sam Bailey was unbelievable, Rough Copy were quite surprising in a good way and Tamera Foster might just do it.
On the other end of the scale Miss Dynamix seem to have lost that 'great chemistry' I have been hearing so much about, Luke Friend ...has funny hair and Sam Callahan sure is pretty but unfortunately is not a contender for the title. But at least he is pretty!
Little by little, as the weeks go by, the acts that will make it to the grand finale will become more apparent, but never underestimate the shock value of the X Factor and with the inclusion of the Flash Vote; we might just be in for a few surprises.
That being said, Shelley and Lorna being in the bottom two was not a surprise in the slightest.
Poor Lorna - I'm sure the last thing any of them want is to be the first to go but someone has to and while she was a good singer (maybe even better than Shelley) there is a lot to be said for personality and to Lorna's detriment, Shelley has bags of it.
Following Sunday's first sing-off many commented on Sharon Osbourne's refusal to choose between her two acts.
She is not the first judge to do it and she won't be the last, though I do think if the only job the judges have on a Saturday and Sunday night is to dress up and say things like "you remind me of a young...." surely they can choose a name!
So as expected the first X Factor live show had a lot going on to entertain the crowd and hopefully this will continue for the remainder of the series.
Though I will admit I am missing the in-fighting between the judges.
I understand they all get on; I understand they all love each other, I understand blah, blah, blah...
Is it too much to ask for a bit of controversial bickering?
Tulisa would have...
