And they're off...

Has the dust settled yet? Is it safe to come out from behind the sofa and survey the damage done when we were all throwing cups/shoes/remotes at the TV on Sunday night when Louis had the dither of all dithers.

"I want to save Carolynne!" he cried. Cue Carolynne bending double in relief. Oh, wait, don't get too comfy with your spot on the X Factor finals.

"I want to go to deadlock!"

And the rest is history.....

It's the first time I've ever seen Dermot rattled - he lost all patience with Louis.

And I don't even want to think about what Gary said to him backstage after he'd stormed off at the Irishman's decision.

Obviously the Take That frontman was aggrieved at having his act voted off. And he's made it perfectly clear the whole way through that he was no fan of Rylan's.

But I'm going to be controversial here. Rylan is sooooooooo much more entertaining to watch than Carolynne. He is.

I don't know whether he's aware that he can't sing, but he's not a bad dancer and the two skills (!) combined mean you just can't tear yourself from the screen.

It's a shame Carolynne fell at the first fence after her heartache of not making the live finals last year.

But that's showbiz!

And whatever the producer said to Louis as the decision was being made, it looks like this X Factor started as it means to go on.
