The Lurgan born Hoops boss led his side to a momentous 2-1 victory over the Spanish superstars of Barca at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

Praise has flooded in for Lennon and, speaking to the press on Friday, he revealed that legendary musician Sir Elton is amongst those who have congratulated him.

"I got a call yesterday from Sir Elton John, believe it or not, congratulating me," Lennon said.

"I don't think he was emotional as Rod [Stewart], but he was telling me about when Watford got to the 1984 cup final and he cried before the game.

"He was very knowledgeable about the game and knew a lot about myself. It was great for him to take time out before he goes to Aus on tour."

Goals from Victor Wanyama and 18-year-old Tony Watt helped the Scottish champions secure Group B victory in Glasgow - despite Barcelona dominating 88% of possession.

It came just two weeks after Celtic narrowly lost out at the Nou Camp.

Rock singer Rod Stewart was seen in tears as the final whistle blew, and Lennon has hailed the victory as one of the "greatest nights in the club's recent history".

There was also praise from his Northern Ireland compatriot and former Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill, who now manages Sunderland in the Premier League.

"I didn't realise until now that there was only something like 11% possession for Celtic so that is absolutely phenomenal to score two goals from that," O'Neill said.

"I watched the game through and through and I thought it was just a magnificent effort by a great club.

"I saw Rod Stewart in tears, and it was a great, great effort - to beat Barcelona was fantastic."
