Two men arrested for questioning in relation to the murder of an RUC inspector almost 40 years ago have been released.
Inspector Bill Elliott was murdered in Rathcoole, Co Antrim in September 1974 as he responded to reports of a robbery at the Ulster Bank in the area.
The 48-year-old was shot by members of the Official IRA who were armed with two submachine guns and a pistol. He was posthumously awarded the Queen's Police Medal.
The PSNI revealed in October that the case had been reopened after a review of the case by the Historical Enquiries Team found potential new leads.
On Wednesday morning, the men - aged 58 and 61 - were arrested in the Co Antrim area and taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite.
The 61-year-old has been released unconditionally while the other man has been released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
