Rape accused denies charges

A man was remanded in custody charged with burglary and rape of a woman in Belfast.

Gary Thomas Baker, who appeared in Belfast Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, is also accused of assaulting the alleged victim at an address in the east of the city.

The alleged offences were all committed at the weekend.

Baker, 26, of Inverwood Gardens, Belfast faces charges of burglary with intent to cause damage, rape, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He denies all of the allegations, but Baker's solicitor said he was not in a position to seek bail for his client at this stage.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded Baker in custody to appear again by video link later this month.
