Woman, 90, fends off city muggers

The 90-year-old woman fended off her city centre attackers.

An elderly woman has fended off two men who attempted to steal her handbag in Belfast city centre.

The woman, 90, was approached by the men at Donegall Place on Monday at 12.30pm.

They attempted to snatch her bag, and she fell to the ground - but managed to hold onto to her possessions.

Both men ran off empty-handed towards the City Hall.

The brave woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital where she was treated for an injury to her face.

Her attackers are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. The first man was about 5ft tall with brown hair and was wearing a baseball cap, a hooded top and blue jeans. The other was about 5ft 10ins tall and had blond hair. He was wearing a baseball cap and a T-Shirt.

Police are appealing for information.
