Date set for Pat Finucane report

Pat Finucane was murdered at his Belfast home by Loyalists in 1989.

A report into the murder of Belfast lawyer Pat Finucane will be published next month, the Northern Ireland Office has confirmed.

Secretary of State for NI Theresa Villiers said the report from the Patrick Finucane Review, chaired by Sir Desmond de Silva QC, will be out on 12 December.

She continued: "A statement will be made to this House at the time the Report is published."

Father-of-three Mr Finucane was gunned down in his north Belfast home by loyalist paramilitaries in 1989.

Sir Desmond de Silva QC was commissioned by the Government last year to undertake a legal review of the case, amid long-running allegations that the state colluded to facilitate Mr Finucane's murder.

The report is to be published in full, after security checks confirmed that no lives would be put at risk as a result.

The Finucane family did not take part in the review. They said they would continue their campaign for a full independent public inquiry.
