It was found on the Antrim Road in Glengormley on Thursday morning.

The area was closed to traffic as army bomb squad officers carried out tests on the device, which was declared a hoax.

All roads have now been reopened.

Newtownabbey councillor Noreen McClelland said the security alert caused "considerable disruption" to traffic during the morning rush hour.

"The Antrim Road is a busy route particularly during rush hour," said the SDLP representative. "The discovery of a suspicious object meant police had to block this road off.

"The fact that the road was opened again after an hour or so is to be welcomed but during that time serious disruption was caused to motorists simply trying to get to work.

"People want to just go about their daily business safely and swiftly, they don't want nor need this kind of disruption".
