The stunt was staged by Robson Thompson, a filmmaker responsible for a series of real life movie spoofs on his YouTube channel.
Whilst his previous efforts covered such film classics as The Shining, Back to the Future and Die Hard, they didn't quite reach the viral heights of his Dark Knight parody.
Robson was clearly surprised by his newfound popularity as he posted on Twitter saying, "Just wow."
These past couple of days have been just crazy for me, I'm so psyched by it all! A big thanks to everyone, I'm so flattered.— Robson Thomson (@RobsonThomson) June 30, 2012
