Last but not least

Ruined, yet majestic... Dunluce Castle stands proudly commanding the ocean, brimming with history, myth and legend.

Many superlatives could be showered on this place and hardly do it justice. It's week six and we hit the north coast for the last in the series of Ulster Unearthed.

It's day one and I'm off to meet our tour guide for the mornings shoot. She's a charming, quirky woman full of interesting stories and I know it's going to be a good morning.

Many fun-filled hours later and I've had the tour of all tours! My head reels from tales of drowned lovers and gory battles.

But as the tour finishes, we can't help noticing that the winds on the already blustery north coast, are picking up.

A quick check on the weather forecast and gale force winds are on the way. Great!

We hit the café on the castle grounds to ready ourselves, and what a spot.

Not only were we plied with endless coffee and goodies, one of the ladies confessed that she is also a make-up artist and sets about transforming my by now weather-beaten face. Now where would you get service like that!

Gale force winds or not, it's jackets back on and get to it.

Now, in terms of archaeology why are we here?

Well, we are keen to find out as much as we can about the once majestic gardens that would have provided a wonderful setting for the castle. And we take another trip to have a look at a similar castle garden in situ.
